Human tendency is to see things with our limited eyesight. Our limited eyesight can only see the possibility of what we believe we can do. This limitation, if we rely on it, limits our potential to all things we were created to accomplish.
If we are disciples of Christ, we need to remove our lenses of scarcity and replace them with the lenses of abundance. Our power is still limited. There is only so much we can do on our own. That part is still true. However… the God who created the universe with all the galaxies, the God who divided a sea and made a path for His people, the God who fed 5,000 plus with 5 loaves of bread and five fish, the God who breathed life back into a dead man… this is Whom we serve. He can do whatever AND He can and will use His people to do it.
Jesus, already knowing what was about to go down, tested His disciple Phillip on how they could possibly feed so many people who were following them. Phillip saw the situation with his limited potential, as most of us would. With Jesus, the potential is not limited as He proved to Phillip. Lord, open our eyes fully so we can see the potential You have for us through You.
After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. (It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” “Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.”
